5 tips to find your dream job

How will you go about landing your dream job in 2018? Here’s a few of our tips to get you started:

1. Know what you want

Take the time to learn about yourself. What are your existing skills and strengths? What are your values? What kind of organisation gets you excited and passionate? Think about what you want to spend your days doing and what kind of company culture is important for you. Start by creating a tailored job search plan.2.  Don’t be put off by lack of experience.Everyone has to start somewhere. Look at the skills and experience you have already, some of them will be relevant to your dream career and if you’re lacking particular experience then find a way to get it. Try out paid internships, do some freelance work, take a night course or volunteer.

3. Take one step at a time

Do something daily that will move you closer to your dream. Maybe it’s reading a book, writing a blog, networking. There’s always something you can do that will keep you moving forward.

4. Do what you are doing exceptionally well

Unless you’re exceptionally lucky it’s highly unlikely you’ll leave university and walk straight into your dream job. So regardless of where you are working (or whatever you are doing) presently, do it with passion and enthusiasm, you never know who might be watching or what opportunities might open up within the organisation or with other staff members.

5. Apply

Keep applying for jobs that are one step closer to your dream job. It might not tick all the boxes but moving to the right company, industry or role will add a great edge to your CV as you continue to search for the perfect opportunity.

Keep an eye on sites like AAI EmployAbility for opportunities to kick-start your career and we believe that one day, hopefully in the not too distant future, you’ll have found your dream job!
