Being an Intern in the Creative Industries Event

On Wednesday 1 October we hosted our first ‘Being an Intern in the Creative Industries’ workshop, a networking event in partnership with the Glasgow School of Art.

At Adopt an Intern, we know that far too often in the creative industries, internships are unpaid. We aim to tackle that issue head on and give graduates the opportunity to work in various creative organisations and be paid for the valuable work they contribute whilst doing an internship.

Over the past 12 months we’ve seen a huge demand for internships in the creative industries, and fantastic growth in the number that we’ve been able to offer through Adopt an Intern. We’ve placed interns in a wide range of creative roles including, studio assistants, ceramicists, textile designers, graphic designers, music promoters, jewellers, magazine editors, museum curators and much more. So we thought, why not bring a few of our employers together to network with graduates and students, explain what their internships looked like and provide hints and tips on what they look for in candidates? And that’s exactly what we did…

Our speakers on the day included:

Each employer brought some interesting insights into their experience of having an intern through Adopt an Intern and had the opportunity to chat to students and graduates both in the form of a Q&A panel session and one-on-one in a networking capacity.

With over 100 students and graduates from across the UK signing up to attend our event in Glasgow (much more than the room could hold!), we are now looking at putting on similar events in the future, so stay tuned and keep an eye on our Employability Events and here on our blog for upcoming announcements.
