Business Development Intern with The Cardboard Box Playcafe

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future direction of this rapidly growing social enterprise, working predominantly on the development of a marketing plan to drive increased awareness of the business.

£7.85 per hour
Part-time, 20 hours per week for 12 weeks

The Cardboard Box Playcafe has a loyal and growing group of regular visitors but a key factor in future success will be growing awareness and ultimately increasing the number of visitors.

The primary task of the Business Development intern will be to develop and implement a detailed marketing plan with consideration to the following areas:
• Process for collecting, interpreting and acting on data and feedback from customers
• Updating, and maximising impact of social media including analysis of current followers to improve targeted activity and identify geographical areas to focus on with offline marketing activity
• Proposals for offline marketing activity with suggestions for securing funding to support and forecast of ROI
• Identification of and attendance at networking events to promote the work of the Cardboard Box and to recruit visitors and volunteers
• Developing ideas for and arranging theme days and special events 

In addition, to ensure a full understanding of the cafe and to provide broader exposure to the running of a social enterprise from an operational and financial perspective, the intern will be expected to work 1 shift per week managing the cafe, providing excellent customer services, and working closely with other volunteers potentially in a supervisory capacity.

The successful candidate will also be required to prepare an analysis of the appropriateness of securing charity status for the Play Cafe and to undertake all necessary tasks to apply for and achieve this status if deemed the best approach to ensure the long term future of the business.

The Cardboard Box is a social enterprise in Stirling, aiming to make parenting a little less stressful, and family life a bit more fun. They run a playcafe providing a range of services and activities to meet the needs of both parents/carers, and children simultaneously. The ideal graduate will have a background in Marketing or Business. You must have a strong understanding of marketing techniques and best practice, including the use of social media for business.

You will have initiative and self-motivation and a desire to succeed. Knowledge, understanding and a passion for the social enterprise sector would be highly beneficial. You should be a strong communicator with the ability to build relationships. You must be confident and comfortable working around young children.

Previous experience in a customer-facing role would be beneficial. You must be flexible and ready to adapt. A strong team player, you will be comfortable working both as part of a team and on your own.
