Communications Intern with Transform Scotland

Transform Scotland is the national alliance for sustainable transport, bringing together over 60 organisations from the private, public and voluntary sectors.

Location: Edinburgh City Centre
£7.65 per hour, 20 hours per week for 12 weeks.
August/September start.

Transform Scotland campaigns for a society where everyone can have their travel needs met within the limits of a transport system that is environmentally sustainable, socially inclusive and economically responsible. Transform Scotland is a registered charity, politically independent, science-based and strictly not-for-profit.

Working as a Communications Intern, the successful candidate will assist Transform Scotland’s Director in delivering the organisation’s Communications Strategy. Key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Preparing, editing, designing and publishing printed publications (e.g. newsletters, briefings, annual reports)
  • Developing and publishing internet content, for Transform Scotland’s website and social media
  • Assisting with organising events
  • Assisting with media work: tracking coverage; dealing with basic media enquiries
  • Assisting the Director in maintaining the Communications Strategy.


The ideal candidate will have a background in communications or marketing with a strong interest in the following areas: PR, press, social media, copy-writing, digital marketing. Candidates should have a strong understanding of how to use social media to promote ideas and spread a message; you should also have the skills to put the theory of digital media into practice.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role. Creative with an eye for design, you should be have meticulous attention to detail and a real passion for writing exciting copy. Strong IT skills will be required for this role. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of Transform Scotland’s mission; an interest in the environment, and in promoting sustainability is a must.
