The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for two recent graduates to support the work of Bridge 47 both within Scotland and in a wider cross-country context. Both roles will be based at the International Development Education Association Scotland (IDEAS) in central Edinburgh.

Working with the National Officer for Scotland and the Advocacy Coordinator, the roles will focus on coordinating advocacy events and training sessions that advance the Global Citizenship Education agenda. The ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and the ability to think critically. At the end of the internship, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to analyse data collected from the events and make recommendations for the project going forward.

Event management: Supporting Bridge 47 staff to plan, organise and deliver events within Scotland and across Europe, for audiences including decision makers and civil society organisations. This includes practical arrangements and logistics such as:

• Researching and gathering information from relevant stakeholders and then suggesting the content or approach of events or training as a result of these findings.
• Procurement of venues & catering.
• Responding to event queries in a timely manner on social channels, phone and email.
• Liaising with Bridge 47 Administrative Coordinator about the logistics of events including travel and accommodation of participants.
• Supporting on-the-ground delivery of specific events where appropriate.
• Collating and analysing feedback from participants.

Communications: Lead on Bridge 47 communication about events within Scotland and Advocacy activity across Europe. This includes:

• Liaising with Bridge 47 staff, and wider networks, both in Scotland and across Europe, about planned work.
• Drafting and implementing a communications strategy for the proposed events, exploring the range of stakeholders involved.
• Creating & scheduling social media content for the team.
• Supporting stakeholders to write blogs and publishing to the website.


Although no specific academic background is required for this post you will be a graduate and able to demonstrate the following attributes:

• Proficient command of English language
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
• Proven experience of organising and overseeing the logistics of events
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi-task
• Demonstrable experience of independent working while achieving tangible results
• Experience in drafting content for websites and social media
• Knowledge of social channels and techniques for boosting engagement (especially on Facebook and Twitter)
• An interest in issues such as Global Citizenship Education, the UN Sustainable Development Goals or making a positive impact for people & planet.

• Photography and photo/video editing skills
• For one position, experience of working with organisations or individuals in the Scottish education sector
• For the other role, experience of working in a cross-country project or setting with a focus on policy or politics (in an EU context would be particularly beneficial)
