Information and Communications Intern with Scottish Community Development Centre

About the Company

The Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) supports best practice in community development and is recognised by the Scottish Government as the national lead body for community development. The organisation works across sectors and with a wide range of professions to support community engagement and community capacity building in any context and at strategic and practice level.

SCDC has a centralised team in Glasgow, working across various roles. The Info-Comms team consists of the Information and Communications Officer and the Policy and Research Officer who work with heads of department to support staff with both general and specialised tasks.


The Role

The team at SCDC are looking for an enthusiastic graduate to support their marketing activities and promotional content. As the Information and Communications Intern, you will work closely with the Information and Communications Officer, who will guide you through the role’s varied responsibilities across the entire organisation, helping you develop a broad understanding of the organisation’s work and wider sectoral issues.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Appropriating content, including text and images, for posting on SCDC-managed websites, social media, bulletins, newsletters and other media.
• Utilising a range of content management systems across SCDC-managed websites and publishing platforms, including:,,, and 
• Daily use of social media to produce regular and relevant activity on SCDC’s range of accounts, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
• Supporting the use of internal information systems including the shared drive, databases, archiving, and general housekeeping.
• Applying SCDC house-style and design guides to content, including layout, illustrations, graphics, formatting and proof reading.
• Working with the Information and Communications Officer to support SCDC colleagues with communications support.



The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level. You should have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to plan, multitask and prioritise as needed. You should feel comfortable working independently, be flexible and have a good attention to detail.

You should be familiar with use of digital media and using new creative formats to communicate messages. An interest in communications within public policy, especially in the third or public sectors in Scotland, is highly desirable.
