The Role

Speyside Kitchen is searching for the latest member to join their vibrant, energetic work family within the catering team.

Functions can range from high-end weeklong residential delivered packages, large informal corporate events and residential events to picnics and river luncheons. The company’s clients can include private groups, educational groups such as primary schools, secondary Schools and universities and others such as the NHS and Eco Green. 

Everyone at Speyside Kitchen is involved and the team is of the greatest importance. The SK team is a family.

The main responsibilities of the role are outlined below:

  • Working alongside the Head of Catering on preparation of menus and weekly planning
  • Studying each recipe and gathering all the necessary ingredients
  • Understanding all dietary requirements as they change
  • Maintain all essential kitchen equipment and tools large and small, such as grills, mixers, pasta makers, ovens and dishwasher
  • Cooking/ creating all dishes and foods in a timely manner 
  • Ensure appealing presentation for packaging or plate
  • Be prepared to recreate, and modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests
  • Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items 
  • Experiment with recipes and be able to suggest new ingredients 
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area
  • Ensure that the kitchen and service areas are clean and tidy so the kitchen is set up for each day with the correct ingredients and utensils
  • Ensuring health and safety regulations are followed 
  • Kitchen Porter duties 
  • Planning, and monitoring food stock to prevent waste and overages
  • Ensure the company’s reputation is maintained with clients and customers

You would be required to work a minimum of 4 days a week and be flexible. Normal days of work will be Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with great flexibility allowing for great work-life balance.

Additional hours will be required to cover events across the year and staff holidays (all of which are disclosed well in advance).  Evenings or nights will be required if an event dictates and these are rare; again all known well in advance.  You will also not be required to work every Saturday or a weekend unless prearranged.

Any qualification background can apply as long as you have the skills to do the job, including if you are returning to work after a break.

  • A strong understanding of produce and ingredients
  • Knowledge of food production methods
  • Ability to follow all food hygiene and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to juggle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to remain calm, level headed and relaxed under pressure
  • A team player
