MGS Traineeship Programme

This project has now been completed.

20 Traineeships to learn museum skills (1 year/£15,000 bursary)

Adopt an Intern is delighted to be working with Museums and Galleries Scotland (MGS). Funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, The Heritage Horizons Traineeship Programme will provide the opportunity for 20 non-graduates from a range of backgrounds to attain an SVQ level 3 vocational qualification in Museums Practice alongside workplace learning during a 12 month paid placement in a host museum. The trainees will have the combination of a qualification and the confidence of work-readiness on completion of the programme. Based in one of 16 museums across Scotland, the posts have a start date of February 2015. For more information on the SVQ level 3 in Museums Practice please click here.

The Adopt an Intern team are now busy shortlisting from the applications received, and will soon be passing our recommendations on to the 16 host organisations.  If you have applied to the programme you will be contacted regarding the outcome of your application by 8 December.

Eligibility: The programme is open to NON-GRADUATES*, committed to a career in the museums sector, who are able to demonstrate a right to work legally in the UK. You must hold three Highers (or equivalent**) including English, and be committed to carrying out the necessary study to complete an SVQ Level 3 qualification in Museum Practice during the year. For more information on eligibility and other questions you might have, please see our MGS Frequently Asked Questions.

The full listing of MGS traineeships is available here.

Please note that no further applications will be accepted for these Traineeships as the closing date has now passed.

*'Graduates' refers to individuals who hold a university degree (i.e. BA, BSc, MA etc). Those with HNC / HND level qualifications are eligible to apply.
**Equivalent includes: NC/SVQ 2 and unqualified volunteers with experience equating to an SCQF level 6 vocational qualification. To view a UK qualifications comparison chart click here.
