Adopt an Intern Awards – Celebrating Our Talented Graduates

Adopt an Intern looks forward to welcoming over 300 guests at its Inaugural Awards reception to be held at the Scottish Parliament on Thursday, 30 April 2015.

The awards – ‘Intern of the Year’, ‘Employer of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement’ – were judged by Susan Edwards, Director of HR, Abellio UK; Gary Merrylees, Talent Manager, Diageo; Laura Peacock, Key Relationship Manager at Investors in People; and Rhoda Grant MSP.

An additional award will be made on the evening to ‘Scotland’s big employer that graduates most aspire to work for’ after a recent survey of Scotland’s graduates. Shortlisted for this award are Scottish and Southern Energy plc, Scottish Water and Standard Life plc.

The reception takes place on the 5th anniversary of Adopt an Intern, formed as a result of high levels of graduate unemployment and a lack of paid, meaningful internship opportunities throughout Scotland.

Joy Lewis, Chief Executive of Adopt an Intern, said:

“Along with a large representation of our graduate interns, the evening brings together key influencers across a broad section of Scotland’s economic and political landscapes who share the same focus – to strengthen the Scottish economy and inspire and afford opportunity to our talented graduate population.

“We know our graduates make a positive economic impact when given the opportunity of paid internships with Scotland’s employers. We want to increase the number of these opportunities so that even more young people can fulfil their potential, more businesses can grow and in turn they can contribute to a stronger, smarter economy”. 

To date Adopt an Intern has placed over 950 interns with a wide variety of organisations throughout Scotland.
