The Role 
We are recruiting for a Public Affairs Intern to join our Public Affairs team. Reporting to the Public Affairs Manager, this is an excellent opportunity to gain real world, varied and engaging paid experience. This role will work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels to maintain an effective and influential profile for the ABI.    
 Key tasks and responsibilities:  
• Administrative tasks associated with the successful running of the Government Public Affairs Network meetings - sending out agendas, updates and compiling attendee lists 
• Political monitoring - monitoring daily events in Parliament, writing notes of Select/Bill Committees for colleagues across the ABI 
• Event support - support for the Public Affairs team’s wider political events programme including the Parliamentary Reception and roundtables dinners  
• Supporting the ABI’s engagement with Parliament - drafting letters, arranging meetings with MPs 
• Political research - producing biographies of parliamentarians, researching political interests of key parliamentarians 
• General administrative support to the Public Affairs team dealing with basic enquiries from stakeholders 
• Work closely on a variety of issues with wider Advocacy Directorate 
To be considered for this opportunity, it is highly desirable that you hold a degree in Politics, International Relations, Economics or a related subject, with a keen interest in current affairs and politics. 
Skills required: 
• Good written and verbal communication skills and proven experience in these areas 
• Organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage several pieces of work at any one time 
• Ability to work under pressure and to agreed timelines 
• A mature, confident and friendly manner with the ability to build strong working relationships and to interact effectively with colleagues 
• Keen to learn and gain experience at an exciting time for the Trade Association and for one of the UK’s biggest, most successful industries 
• Experience of working in Parliament or public affairs would be highly desirable
