I can’t believe it was only 12 weeks ago that I started working at Firefly as a Marketing and Business Development Intern (through Adopt an Intern). How time goes fast when you enjoy what you do, you’re kept busy and learning so much all at the same time!
I remember a conversation I had at the start of my internship with Chief Executive, Kirsty Maynor. She informed me that the business was going through many phases of growth and that working here would be fast-paced. She was definitely right there! With all the exciting developments (launch of the new website, Leader of the Future Award and being a finalist for 2 prestigious awards), I have certainly been kept busy right from day 1; creating marketing and social media plans, undertaking market research, writing blog posts, drafting a PR brief, tracking marketing efforts and updating Firefly’s client management system, I have never been stuck for things to do!
After completing my third year as a Marketing and Business Enterprise student at the University of Strathclyde, it has been great to be able to put my knowledge learned in the lecture theatre into practical application. The experience gained in Firefly has further inspired me to pursue a career in Marketing.
I am really pleased I have had this opportunity to work with Firefly to gain primary experience regarding how to run a business. It has been a learning curve and I am proud to have been part of the team. As such, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kirsty for her help, support and kindness. Kirsty is someone I respect and have learned a lot from (she certainly knows her stuff!) It truly has been a pleasure to work for Firefly and I have gained excellent experience that I can take with me.
Although I will be studying hard in my honours year, I am very happy to remain with Firefly working remotely as required.
Finally, I believe Firefly has great potential and I am looking forward to seeing how big it will go!
