Roseanne’s Internship Experience
I have hugely benefited from the internship opportunity provided through Adopt and Intern. Joining a small third sector organisation has allowed me to develop skills in a range of new areas – finance, marketing, digital communications, learning support, networking and partnership building – that I wouldn’t have been able to do if I’d joined a larger organisation, or if I’d had a more pre-defined role. The internship allowed me to be flexible and try my hand at new things to see what I excelled at and to find out where my strengths lie.

The support I received as an intern by my employers was also important in developing my confidence in the role; people are very patient and allow you to grow at your own pace as you take on new challenges. I have also found the support from Adopt an Intern to be fantastic, from the initial shortlisting and interview process to their checking in at intervals to make sure the internship is progressing well – it’s good to feel part of a community of other graduates that are being supported in the transition to their chosen career.
Mary De la Peña (Chief Executive, Children’s University Scotland) states “I cannot praise Roseanne highly enough! The skills, enthusiasm and creativity she demonstrates have far exceeded our expectations; less than half way through her internship we offered her a permanent contract as we didn’t want to risk losing her.”
