University – Glasgow Caledonian University
Qualification – BA (Hons) Marketing
Job hunting experience – I tended to look around cafe windows, check the internet or go on the recommendation of friends to find work. It would take a while handing out CVs and hoping for the best. Most of the time I wouldn’t get a response back and it’s only through persistence I managed to find work.
Roles and responsibilities – I got the chance to develop some skills that I already possessed with industry professionals, with particular focus on working on a start-up project.
I was involved in writing up a full funding application, which included a business plan and budgeting for the start-up project. I undertook market research and helped formulate a marketing plan for the start-up project.
Design was also a part of the job and I got to develop my skills in this area, helping create a logo for a start-up project and elements for the website (which I also helped build). Lastly, the company I worked with was also involved in events, so I got to go and spec venues for shows and meet with clients.
Where are you now? – I am currently project manager of [Frogbeats] a music, arts and events collective/company based in Glasgow.
This is a multi-faceted role that includes administration, marketing, event management, performing and digital media. I am on my ideal career path as I would like to work in the events and music industry, and it is a bonus working for myself and with like-minded people.
The internship experience has helped me understand the professional side of the industry I would like to work in and provided me with some potentially useful contacts for the future.
