What to ask in a Job Interview

Job interviews are not only about the employer asking you all the questions. They are also about you engaging with them and evaluating your future job environment.

How would you describe the work culture?

This question not only shows that you are interested in other aspects of the job than merely the completion of your tasks on day to day basis, but it also provides an opportunity of evaluating whether this company suits you.

What do you like the most about working here?

This question allows you to connect to the interviewer on a more personal level, as you are essentially asking them to share their feelings. It will also let you have a glance at the company from an insider’s perspective. If your interviewer struggles to find things that they like it is potentially a bad sign for you as well.

Who was the person that held this position previously?

It may seem a pretty simple question but it will potentially provide you with hints regarding why your predecessor was successful or not, if there’s a chance for advancement and if the employers are happy about having to recruit for the post.

Can you tell me more about the team I will be part of?

It is good to know about your future colleagues, as you will interact with them on a daily basis. You can also ask about the projects they are currently working on and find out how you will fit as part of the team.

What will the team be expecting from me?

Asking up front what the expectations will be is the best way to be prepared in order to meet them if you are successful.

What should I expect now?

It may seem an obvious question but it is very easy to miss. If you feel that the interview went well, then you should know how long you might expect to wait before hearing about the position and if there are further steps to be completed.
