Traction Energy Intern with Abellio ScotRail

About the Company
From 1 April 2015, one of Europe’s largest bus and rail operator, Abellio, took over the operation of Scotland’s Railway Network Franchise ‘ScotRail’. Worth up to £6 billion, this is the single biggest contract let by the Scottish Government. The franchise has a number of new initiatives and investments launched, which will make train travel more attractive for people and visitors throughout Scotland.

An exciting part of the franchise has been the emphasis on sustainability, including the adoption of initiatives to improve the energy performance of the train fleet.

The Role
The successful Intern will work directly to the traction energy manager and with other staff within the ScotRail Team, to support the delivery of projects in order to improve the energy performance of the train fleet, including the Driver Advisory System (DAS) Project.

The post will engage with internal and external stakeholders, along with the DAS supplier to introduce and address any issues that arise.

Cross function working is required with the following departments and stakeholders:
   Train Planning Operations - Driver depots
   Network Rail
   DAS supplier

The position will be require flexibility to work some evenings or nights and be prepared to travel around Scotland, spending the odd night away from home if required.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and proactive individual with an attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be a current student of recent graduate with a background in an Engineering field or other technical related discipline.

The candidate must be computer literate and proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel software. Knowledge or interest in transport and environmental initiatives would also be beneficial.
