Daniella Dei – Volunteer Placement and Coordinator Intern, Glasgow Museums

Volunteer Placement and Coordinator Intern, Glasgow Museums

As a history graduate from the University of Glasgow, a 12 month paid internship in a museum was too good an opportunity to miss so I applied to the 2013/14 Museums Galleries Scotland Internship Programme through Adopt an Intern in summer last year and was lucky enough to be appointed as one of the interns at Glasgow Museums.

Working as the Volunteer Placement and Coordinator Intern I benefited from being involved in various elements of the cultural activities programme in the lead up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a once in a lifetime opportunity! My internship provided me with the perfect opportunity to expand my skill-set straight out of university. I worked on a diverse range of projects each one giving me new experiences that I could put into practice in future roles.

The overall experience was fantastic and the support provided by Glasgow Museums and Adopt an Intern was just right. I’ve made some great friendships with some of the other interns through the programme and we still keep in touch.

My internship has set me up for a strong future and I walked straight into a great job straight after of my time as an intern. In my new job I get to utilise many of the skills I developed at Glasgow Museums, including planning events, supporting and recruiting volunteers and strategising volunteer engagement. It’s been the perfect start and I would definitely recommend Adopt an Intern to anyone looking to kick off their career in style!
