Branding/Marketing Project with Greyfriars Kirk (Furlough Volunteer Role)

Location: Remote working from home
Furlough Volunteer Post
Immediate start
Hours to be negotiated
Apply by 5 August 2020

Important: this role would ideally suit a person who is currently furloughed from their regular employment. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme states that furloughed workers may volunteer their time and skills to projects such as this.

Please note that the application process for this and other volunteering opportunities is slightly different from our usual form. See "Application" section below.

The Organisation

“Based in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, Greyfriars Kirk has stood in the same spot since 1620 – the first new Kirk to be built in post-Reformation Scotland. We aim to be a welcoming, inclusive community and to respond to local needs in a variety of ways, particularly through our work with the Grassmarket Community Project and the Greyfriars Charteris Centre.

The Kirk is also a major venue for the arts, a beautiful space for hire in the centre of the city, and a popular tourist destination.”

The Role

Greyfriars is looking for an experienced Branding/Communications person to advise them on what they are doing well, what could be improved and what opportunities they could be developing.

The Kirk has three strands to its activity, in addition to being an active Church of Scotland congregation:

Greyfriars Outreach, which organises and promotes events in the church building
Grassmarket Community Project, which supports people experiencing deep social exclusion, through employment and volunteering opportunities, social events and training
the Greyfriars Charteris Centre, which operates in partnership with other organisations with themes of wellbeing and enterprise

Each has developed a distinct brand identity but remains part of the overall mission of Greyfriars Kirk.  The aim with this post is to determine how they can reinforce that unity, improve the branding and create new possibilities to promote these offerings that benefit all three organisations.

As this is a furlough position, Greyfriars Kirk are happy to discuss the hours you are able to offer them to contribute to this work.
