I’ve been an intern at Morton Fraser LLP for 2 months, working as the assistant to the Executive Team and PA to the Chairman.

Working as an assistant to five executive directors means that every day is different, and I never know what I’m going to be asked to do next. My job involves a lot more than managing diaries and organising meetings – though you shouldn’t underestimate the challenge of getting 10 busy people in one room for an hour! Often I’m asked to do research, collate data and statistics, and draft documents; it’s about being able to prioritise and juggle an ever-changing to-do list.
I also do a lot of work for the tenders team, drafting and checking the large documents which we send out to clients to bid for work. The success of these tenders is very important to the firm because they are for the largest contracts, but already I’m being given more responsibility in this critical area of the business.
The learning curve was steep at the start, because I was replacing a highly experienced PA, but the culture of Morton Fraser is really supportive, and I feel valued for the work that I do. I like that everyone takes the time to explain why they need something done, and listens to my ideas. No one would ask me to make them a cup of coffee or fetch their dry cleaning!
Adopt an intern helped me to get my foot through the door in a graduate job market that seemed really saturated, and I’m sure that the skills I’m learning now will make my next step much easier.
