About the Organisation
The United Nations Association Edinburgh (UNAE) is a grassroots voluntary organisation, supporting and promoting the United Nations and helping to build a safer, fairer and a more sustainable world.

UNAE is a branch of the United Nations Association UK (UNA-UK), which is a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). It is a charity affiliated to UNA Scotland.

Through the work of its staff, volunteers and members, UNA-UK campaigns and educates to promote the principles of the UN Charter and to support the work of the UN and its agencies. In the Edinburgh branch, we support the aims and aspirations of UNA-UK through our own activities and events in a wide variety of policy areas, which are undertaken by a series of working groups.

The Role
UNAE is looking for a passionate intern to work on the development, organisation and delivery of a conference on Syria. The post brings together the currency of international affairs in the Middle East with the fulfilment of delivering on bringing experts and other stakeholders together for a successful conference. It will be challenging but very rewarding on various levels.

The main tasks will include (but won’t be limited to):

• Networking in order to raise awareness and maximise attendance
• Following up (by email and telephone) any registrations of interest in our conferences to maximise attendance and revenue for each conference
• Work with other team members to understand event and venue requirements for the conference
• Manage registration and enquires
• Maintain clear and regular communication with conference speakers and Chairs to ensure they understand what is expected of them and to resolve any pre-conference queries
• Carry out any associated admin tasks as required

The ideal candidate will have a background in International Relations and Middle East studies. A knowledge of regional politics and the consequences of regime shifts is essential. Experience in organising events/Events Management will also be beneficial. You must be well organised, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and a good telephone manner. You should be comfortable in working under pressure and experienced in using social media.

Ideally you will have an interest in politics and UNAE’s cause in particular. The role would appeal to a recent young graduate who is conversant with UN-related groups in Scotland, and eager to maximise the opportunities to benefit from further exposure to these contacts through this conference.
