IT and Marketing Assistant Intern with Isle of Auskerry

Isle of Auskerry is a successful small business based in Orkney, making a range of products from North Ronaldsay rare breed sheep. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with great IT skills who is keen to help develop several aspects of the business.

Location: Kirkwall, Orkney
£7.65 per hour, full or part time to suit the applicant, 2-3 months
Mid- January 2015 start

The company makes most of its products by hand in Orkney, with some – such as its popular throws - manufactured in Scotland. The North Ronaldsay rare breed is a sheep that was considered commercially unviable until Isle of Auskerry began successfully producing and marketing their products all over the world.

Most of the sales are done via the company’s website which is growing steadily year on year. The company also sells to several local outlets in Orkney and their stock can be found in shops in London’s Mayfair. It also sells directly to customers at craft fairs and shows.

Isle of Auskerry is looking for an intern to help expand and improve its internet marketing; computerise their filing and accounts and help with the design of a new website which is being rebuilt in the New Year.

Principle tasks will include:

  • Devising and implementing a computerised filing system for the business
  • Overseeing the new accounting software and merging this with the dispatch of orders
  • Creating engaging and effective internet marketing campaigns
  • Assisting the web designer to produce a new website


The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, familiar with market research processes and strategies and have a good knowledge of IT. Experience or an understanding of e-marketing and accounting software is an advantage. A passion for marketing and online communications is essential. Candidates must have demonstrable experience of working with online databases and filing systems. They should also be enthusiastic about growing and developing businesses.
