Research and Information Intern with The Third Sector Employability Forum

The Third Sector Employability Forum (TSEF) was created to be a collective voice on employability issues for the Third Sector in Scotland.

Location: Eurocentral, North Lanarkshire
£7.80 per hour. 21 hours per week for 26 weeks. December start

The TSEF has 150 organisations with approximately 60 to 80 attendees at each full bi-annual forum meeting. Both the Forum and the Executive group are represented by local and national organisations including Prince’s Trust, Intowork, Wise Group, Lennox Partnership, SAMH and SCVO.

The TSEF have an exciting opportunity for graduates who wish to put into practice their research and reporting skills and those interested in develop a career in Scotland’s Third Sector.

The intern will work with the Executive Group of TSEF. The Executive’s role is to:

  • Utilise the experience and expertise of the Third Sector in the development, design and delivery of services to people looking to participate in the labour market.
  • Be an effective forum to engage with Scottish Government on emerging and existing policy responses to worklessness.
  • Promote progress along the employability pipeline - not just employment itself.
  • Promote the sharing of good practice across organisations working on the employability agenda.
  • Promote the voice of the Service User.

As a Research and Information Intern your main tasks will include:

  • Establish an ‘Information Hub’ (database of information and best practice)
  • Carry out research in the third sector
  • Analyse data
  • Produce reports
  • Contribute to the delivery of the TSEF Workplan
  • Work with the TSEF Support & Development Officer

Part of the initial work of the will be to fill in some of the information gaps identified by previous research (such as the spending/performance on the Work Programme and JCP Support contracts). At a later stage of the project you will be responsible for developing a bank of in depth case studies and a map of the information available relating to local provision by Local Employment Partnerships. The case studies will be shared within the sector to create a network of best practice.

The ideal candidate will be educated to a degree level with a background/experience in social sciences, research or politics. Previous experience working in or a strong understanding of/interest in the Third Sector would be an advantage.
You will possess good online research skills, alongside strong reflective and analytical skills, with the ability to find, absorb and summarise complex information and issues. You will have good written and oral communication skills and be IT literate with the ability to use Microsoft Office. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to produce high quality written reports that convey complex information in a clear and concise manner and is accessible to a range of audiences.

This role requires a positive individual with good networking skills and ability to form positive partnerships and work in collaboration with others. You will also have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritise and manage your own work load to meet agreed deadlines.
Please note – there is limited public transport provision to Eurocentral in North Lanarkshire.
