Omega Product Developments engages in project research and development and is a sister company to seafood processor Aquascot. The company is based in Alness, a town around 20 miles north of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.
£17,550 per annum FTE
37.5h per week for 6 month duration
Omega Product Developments are currently looking for a graduate with appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to support the development of an exciting new aquaculture project. Working as a Research Assistant, the successful candidate will:
• Conduct desktop research to achieve the aims of the project (to be determined in Sep 2015)
• Survey sites around the north coast of Scotland to validate desktop research
• Carry out other relevant duties to help meet the project objectives
• Support colleagues to meet wider company targets
*Please note that although this position is based in Alness, Ross-shire, part of the placement will involve travel around northern Scotland. Travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and practical experience of marine science and policy; this must include demonstrable knowledge in aquaculture and a postgraduate qualification in this field would be desirable. An understanding of intertidal ecology would be highly beneficial.
Excellent IT skills (particularly MS Office applications and GIS software), good written and verbal communication skills (including proficient report writing skills), strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise are essential. You should have a flexible approach and willingness to work outdoors in all weathers. Strong self motivation plus the ability to collaborate in a small team are critical.
Candidates should have a full valid UK driving licence.
