Revenue Junior Analyst with Abellio (x2 roles)

Location: Glasgow, with flexibility to travel to other locations in the UK
£20,000-22,000 p.a. pro rata

Abellio’s operations span three countries across bus, tram and train services. In the UK they operate buses through Abellio London & Surrey, as well as Abellio Greater Anglia train services, and Merseyrail and Northern Rail in joint ventures with Serco. The main purpose of these roles is to provide assistance to the Revenue Specialists in their support of bids and operating companies, especially ScotRail. The roles are critical in producing models for operational, finance and revenue teams in ScotRail and supporting Bid projects.

The successful graduate interns will develop data processing systems that connect a number of external sources. The candidate will create systematic processes and apply logic checking before processing the data into the required reporting format. The responsibilities for this role include:

Modelling and Software Development
• Produce links between industry databases and reporting structures required by the ScotRail business using Excel and Qlikview;
• Support the revenue, finance and operational teams in Abellio’s businesses by developing bespoke reporting tools and dashboards
• Support the bid revenue team in data analysis, model development and model runs
• Support the Revenue Specialists to ensure that models produced in-house or by external consultants are functioning as expected.

Research, Data Processing and Analysis
• Research on all aspects required as inputs to the revenue and patronage forecasting and for a public transport bids and operations. This will include social, economic, demographic and behavioural factors that influence past and future revenue and patronage growth.
• Research operational and performance statistics and produce mechanisms for communicating trends, issues and successes to senior management
• Thorough processing of primary and secondary data including passenger volumes and revenue
• Plan and manage passenger surveys including face-to-face interviews
• Produce draft technical notes, working papers and presentations of the results of any analysis

Business Cases & Non-bid projects
• Produce analysis and reports in support of business cases justifying initiatives
• Support the company in non-bid projects as required, with possible secondments to operating companies

The successful applicants will be educated to degree level, with a background in a mathematics or computing/IT discipline. You will be able to demonstrate experience of manipulating very large datasets and a good understanding of databases. You will be comfortable with creating data-intensive analysis using a number of external sources. You will be open to learn how to develop the front-end of tools and reporting systems. This will entail developing high level and operational dashboards to summarise reports. You will have experience of developing data strategy and data architecture.

You will be able to demonstrate strong technical skills, e.g. Excel//Access, and computer programming is a definite advantage. Experience of programming skills in VBA for Excel is desirable.

You will have strong written and verbal presentation skills, and be able to communicate complex ideas to people at different levels of the business. You will have the ability to work under high pressure and challenging deadlines, especially towards the end of the project.

Due to the need for travel to different Abellio sites across the UK (primarily London), you will be prepared to travel and sometimes be away from home for up to three nights per week (travel and accommodation expenses will be covered).
