The Role

As Year of Young People intern, your role will focus on bringing an international dimension to Scotland’s Year of Young People which is year-long celebration of young people supported by the Scottish Government. The YoYP aims to give young people aged 8-26 a platform to give them a stronger voice on issues which affect their lives. It is also a means to showcase their ideas and talents, to enable dialogue between generations, and to create a more positive perception of young people.

The successful candidate will support the development and delivery of British Council Scotland’s plans to engage with this special year. The YoYP intern will take a lead on progressing relevant activities, events and initiatives. Their daily work will cover project monitoring, communications, and administration. Creating digital and social media content about the value of internationalism will also be a priority. The role will also include attending partner events on behalf of British Council Scotland.


This role would suit an arts and humanities graduate with relevant demonstrable skills and interests in communications, international relations, and cultural

The following skills are desirable:

• Strong and confident verbal and written language
• Some experience in digital content creation and audience engagement on social media platforms
• Awareness of and interest in Scottish and international culture and diplomacy
• Be well organised and a self-starter 
• Be competent in using a range of IT packages including Office 365 and basic visual tools
• Demonstrate a flexible attitude towards supporting all areas of work within the organisation
• Able to take initiative at work and to take ownership of your own work
• Able to work confidently within a team as well as to work independently when necessary
• Creative problem solving
